Wamego Tulip Festival | 101 in 1001

Hi, I am so excited. Two of my 101 in 1001 I can mark completed, #21 and #44.

Saturday, April 13, 2024 after my Weight Watchers meeting I met up with Linda and we drove to the tulip festival.

Meeting people is fun. While visiting Wamego, Jim was the person who greeted us as we went into the ‘Old Town’ area. He was in front of the communication building featuring the telephones. To see images of the antique telephones and other festival images, click here.

Ten years ago, there were just a few vendors, mainly informational. This year it was packed, vendors, food vendors and visitors! The main entrance took you thru the food court. Many different foods to pick. We arrived right at lunch time. For lunch we went to the tent where the Knights of Columbus grilled hamburgers, right side in picture. And on the way out we went to the Stumpy’s Smoked Cheese food truck on the left in the image. Oh my, the Mac and Cheese with bacon was delicious!

Topeka, KS Capitol | 101 in 1001

Hi, I had the fun experience while running an errand for my son. This errand took me to Topeka, KS. This city holds a special spot in my heart. First and foremost this is where my daughter and her family call home. Topeka is a city of history as well. #15 of my 101 in 1001 can be checked off!

While in Topeka I decided to visit the state capitol. The dome was my interest on this trip. For many years the dome was a lime green color. After the restoration, the dome is a dark brown. I wanted to get up close and see the changes.

Briella, Brynlee and I were successful in climbing all 296 steps to the top of the dome!

We discovered after this climb, Brynlee is afraid of heights. Regardless, she was a trooper!

Hi, today I am grateful for dreams. One of my 101 in 1001 is to vacation solo. My dreams of doing this has finally come to me needing to take action! I have always had a fear of traveling alone. Even going to see a show alone was something I did not want to do. However, I conquered that in my 101 in 1001 and it was not a bad experience. So I am dreaming of taking a trip. My plan is to go for a short solo venture to someplace in Kansas- most likely a day trip. With this decision made, I am already getting excited!

Grateful for shelter, food and clothing.

Hi, today I am reminded of what I do have. I am grateful for a home I can return to, be safe in, my happy place. Plenty of food.

Kevin signed up to take hard boiled eggs to the ‘Picnic in the Park’ for the homeless. Kevin usually brings things others don’t think of and then becomes a hit. Well, I must say, Kevin was not successful this time. He tried to bake the eggs instead of boiling them. He had 12 dozen eggs and did not want to even try boiling them. Today was his first time to bake in oven hard boiled eggs. Facebook recipe said to bake at 325 for 30 minutes. Then put hot eggs in a cold bath. Kevin did as instructed. We went to the park, helped set up. During serving, one person took an egg and jokingly went to hit his head with it. The egg was not hard boiled. Every one who witnessed the scene just laughed and the eggs were pulled from the table. Thank goodness there was plenty of other food there! 🙂 Kevin keeps saying, ‘it’s on FaceBook, it’s got to be true!’ Or not.

Mary Beth, the group organizer said we had approx 170 people come thru our line today. Many different ages of people. Staples provided weekly, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and water to drink. Then there is a sign up sheet for donated prepared food.

Happy Labor Day!

Labor Day did you know

Happy Labor Day!

Labor Day is the unofficial end of summer and is on the first Monday in September. In fashion, Labor Day is considered the last day when it is acceptable to wear white. This brings back memories of when I was a kid, my mom would not let me wear white shoes or white shorts/pants Labor Day through Easter. A tradition I passed on to my children.

Fun at the Kansas City Zoo.

Hi, I had a fun birthday weekend with my family at the Kansas City Zoo. Happy birthday to me!

The morning began with eating breakfast out. I ordered a two egg omelet with cheese, bacon, green onion and tomato. After breakfast my daughter and her family picked me up to go to the zoo. It was for sure a fun birthday. It did make me realize a few things.

Firstly, I want to do better of taking pictures through out my adventures. There were things the grand girls did that I never took a picture. For example when they slid down the slide instead of using the stairs. I never took images of our lunch, what we ordered and the menu to show the high cost of ordering on zoo grounds. The thought of bringing a picnic lunch didn’t even come to mind until I saw the prices. One bottle of water was $5.00. Ouch, a family of 4 would be 20 bucks.

Secondly, my weight. My age, working from home, not getting out among other things I have been telling myself when I look in the mirror. This adventure to the zoo made me realize how my weight is affecting me. And it is not good. From this day forward, I will take more responsibility to do something for myself to improve my health. I want to be like my Aunt Phyllis was. When she was 80 she could keep up with my dancing when I was 50. She looked amazing. That is how I want to be when I am 80.

#52 Walk two miles 3x a week.
#53 Do nightly excersizes 3x a week. Opposite nights from above walking goal.

These two will be a work in progress. And to keep a journal of progress, I will include a selfie of me each post. And hopefully this will show the change/progress of my efforts.
