Art Collaboration | Sunday Snapshot #43

Hi, welcome to My Sunday Snapshot! It’s spring break. One day at my daughter’s home we had planned on going to the zoo. However, the weather turned winter like, 30’s with slushy rain. Instead we stayed in and painted. Brynlee had a large canvas that was divided. In the bottom picture, my painted section is the lower left quarter. It was a fun time shared, memories made!

We folded the laundry after painting. You know how it is, the important stuff first!

Have a wonderful week!

I Need Happy Pills, or not

I Need Happy Pills

Hi, welcome to Gma’sPhoto. Working on my 101 in 1001 list #49. Back when I went to the doctor’s for my wellness check, I had mentioned I needed my dose of happy pills increased.

A few years back my daughter mentioned she thought I had attention deficient disorder. I spoke to the doctor about this as well. During our discussion, I elected to not increase my Lexapro (happy pill). Instead the doctor gave me a packet of paperwork, one set for me to complete and a second set for my husband to complete. Because Erika had mentioned the A.D.D, I made a copy of the paperwork for her to complete as well. Erika and Kevin paperwork, both were similar.

During my follow up appointment with my doctor, the doctor wanted to treat me for the Inattentive ADD. It was explained to me that the depression I am experiencing can be a symptom of the ADD. We decided to keep the Lexapro at the same dose but add Wellbutrin. After taking the added medicine, I am to return for another follow up appointment in four weeks.

It’s been two weeks and this is what I have noticed so far:

  • Less emotional moments. I was tearing up more and this was the reason for asking to increase my happy pill.
  • In my head/mind, I am not talking to myself near as much.
  • Being less tired.
  • Housework not feeling daunting. I still need to make myself do the housework, but not the same struggle I had been experiencing. Who likes doing housework anyway? 🙂
  • I have noticed my Crohn’s is less active. May be too soon to know, however will report this at follow-up appointment.

All these 60 years, I believed what my parents said about me when I was a kid; lazy. After revealing this to the doctor, she said, not at all. Back in the day, the hyper A D D child was dealt with. However, the inattentive child did not disrupt the group/class. Therefore, those children slipped through the cracks so to say. I am aware that I still need to ‘clean’ the house. But the rolling thoughts of EVERYTHING that needs to be done going from one to the next will diminish. Eliminating the exhaustion before I even begin.

I am looking forward to the next couple weeks. The anticipation of new experiences I will have, is exciting! Does anyone else have a similar experience? I am interested if you have.

What is a Bully?

What is a Bully?

Hi, welcome to Gma’sPhoto. Since beginning to drive the bus in November, I have had the opportunity to witness many fun, exciting and concerning experiences. Every one has heard the saying, ‘kids will be kids’. But at what point is the ‘kids will be kids’ not be okay?

Mrs.E (Me): Is Beau and Mae on the bus today?
Kids: yes.
Mrs.E: At Beau and Mae’s house I stop to let them off bus.

Mrs.E: How’s the tempature back there?
Some kids: cold, other kids: hot.

I go with the kids who say cold and keep the heat turned to low. When I was dropping off the last rider, she told me the bus was in fact hot and two of the younger girls were crying because they were hot. They were sitting next to the heater.

I have since been paying attention to two particular young boys. They are pranksters. Very funny too. They have even gotten me to laugh on more than one occasion. These two boys will often times answer opposite of what is true. I am now waiting for them to answer no to a kid who is actually on the bus and I pass that child’s stop!

This had me thinking, what actually is a bully. ChildCare Education Institute explains there are four types of bully: physical, verbal, rational and cyberbullying.

Verbal bullying is such a broad subject. What is bullying changed to Am I a bully? I absolutely love comedians. So am I promoting bullying behavior? Comedians are always making fun of people and or events, that is their livelihood. Saturday Night Live is horrible at making fun of politics, targeting a particular party/person. Can you imagine how you would feel if you were that one person of the party? Probably wouldn’t be too funny. Are we bully’s for enjoying these programs?

We, as adults are supposed to prevent bullying. However, while enjoying the comedians and even finding humor in their presentations, I feel like a hypocrite- someone who pretends to have certain beliefs or qualities, but their actions contradict those beliefs.

What do you think? I would be interested in knowing. I find myself wondering about this more now that I am working around kids of many ages, kindergarten through high school.

Life with Crohn’s Disease

Life with Crohn’s Disease

Hi, welcome to Gma’sPhoto! Today I would like to share my life with Crohn’s Disease. First and foremost**-
Nothing on this website should be considered medical advice. Always consult a doctor before making any changes to your diet, medical plan, or exercise routine. Please refer to the disclaimer.

Let me first begin with, ‘What is Crohn’s disease?‘ To get a complete explanation, click the link. In my words, it’s the sshitz….. literally.

I was diagnosed at age 17. It took many years to understand what foods I could eat without triggering the horrible side affects of the disease. Stress interrupted my food intake, what my gut could and could not tolerate at that moment in my life. The weeks leading up to me qualifying for my CDL and learning a new route was a stressful time for me. Keep this in mind as you are reading….

Past employers have been wonderful working with me and my need to have restroom access as needed. However, my newest job is a tricky one. My supervisor has been wonderful. There was an incident that I could have lost my job because of the actions I took at the time of one of those restroom needs.

At this moment and time of my life, I have had to make another adjustment to my lifestyle. This will include carrying a bag of necessities on the bus. This bag will include an extra pair of pants, panties, baby wipes and a potty pad. You heard correct, a potty pad. I am now a CDL Bus driver. Thank goodness, my longest route is 2 to 2.5 hours. There is no bathroom on a bus. So guess what? I will need to pooh my britches if a bathroom urge strikes. Not looking forward to this. One of my requests was no cloth seat 🙂 I will be sitting on a potty pad!

The incident I referenced above, I could have lost my job because I did not pooh my britches. It was necessary for the administration correction taken. There is a plan now in place. Luckily the superintendent of the district is aware of Crohn’s and understood the meaning of, ‘I need to go now’! Of course, I had to provide a doctor’s note stating my diagnosis and what was needed medically for me to be successful. All is good for now. I am sure this will provide opportunities of some humorous post follow ups 😂

In all seriousness, Crohn’s is not a fun diagnosis to live with. On the other hand, I would much prefer to talk about it instead of talking about it when an ‘accident’ occurs and I am very embarrassed. Granted talking about pooh for most is embarrassing butt (pun intended), could you image how embarrassing it would be if you had to pooh your britches?

Should you have experience with Crohn’s or Ulcerative colitis, let me know. We can share tips and tricks to avoid those embarrassing moments.

Take Care. Best wishes, Debra

Semi Retired

Semi Retired | My Sunday Snapshot #32

Hi, welcome to My Sunday Snapshot! I am finding more and more things to do now that I am semi retired. Going from 40 hour work week to 20 hours is giving me so much more time to do as I wish and not because I have to. After my morning bus route, I stopped into the public library to work on my site and seen this poster.

semi retired

Heck, yes. I am so doing this. I chose to paint a rock. This rock!

rock

The evening was an absolute blast. I met new friends. Laughed. Laughed a lot! And best of all, I have the rocks as keep sakes of a fabulous memory. What was even better, it was free!

Are you retired or at the semi stage, same as me? What are some of the things you enjoy the most with your added personal/home time?

Have a wonderful week!
