Commercial Driver’s License | My Sunday Snapshot #25
Hi, welcome to My Sunday Snapshot 25!
This week my image is more about a change. This change was unexpected. Currently, I work 9 to 5:30 from home. This isn’t too bad one may say. For me, not the best. In no near future will I be able to work the open shift, 7 to 3:30. when I did have this shift, I was able to be in the pool by 4. Get an hour in the late afternoon sun. As it is now, the pool is mostly in the shade. I am 60, my kids are grown and I am only working for the health insurance. Otherwise I would be ‘retired’. Okay, rant over.
One of the local towns I drive thru to get to Lawrence is Tonganoxie. One day in July I had seen a huge sign that the school needs school bus drivers. Ding, ding 🙂 With an inquiring mind, I went to the USD website and looked up the description. Full time is 20 hours a week. One can select either the health insurance or vision/dental insurance premium to be covered 100%. It would be split shift, morning route and an after school route. but I would have 4 hours between the two shifts I can be floating in the water 🙂 There would also be the occasions for extra driving time with school activities. I completed the online application. So we will see. I’ll keep you posted.
One more little rant. After picking up the CDL manual and reading; there is a section on Road Rage. I found this interesting. Many times I wonder if other drivers (especially the ones out of driver’s ed) knows this. On highway’s with more than one lane traveling the same direction, the left lane is for passing, not to just drive in. Did you know this?

Let’s begin the fun at Gma’sPhoto ge•ner•ic Linkup Party #43!
Hi, welcome to Gma’s Photo. Another month has come and gone. One of my photo memories that popped up on my phone is the featured image I selected for this post. It really doesn’t have anything to do with July, however- I found it funny. I wanted to share a funny! Seems each month goes faster than the last. In five, we will be preparing for Christmas. Image that! For now, I will concentrate on what I did in July. Here is my one line a day for July.
01. Monday. Linda is busy with her firework stands. Our virtual walk is postponed until after the firework season has ended.
02. Tuesday. Making a list of things needing to do before the party.
03. Wednesday. I miss my virtual walks with Linda.
04. Dinner and movie night with Adam. Lots of people shooting fireworks! Adam’s little dog, Illi, did not like the sounds throughout the night.
05. I took the day off from work. Went to the hospital for the Prolia shot. Spent the rest of the day getting ready for our July Summer Party!
06. Kevin made pulled pork. We asked our guest to bring a side dish. So many delicious foods were brought. My sister in law wanted a sibling picture. This is Kevin’s parents and siblings.
07. Drove Adam home after breakfast. Once home worked on the blog and went to bed early.
08. Back to work. Busy day after holiday weekend. Washed Dixie, our Australian Shepard. She had an encounter with a little white striped kitty. 🤭
09.
10. Dinner and Movie night with Adam. For dinner we had some left over pulled pork. Oh so delicious!
11. I sure enjoy my frozen dark sweet cherries with low fat vanilla yogurt!
12. Went with Erika and her family to see the Little Mermaid musical at Starlight Theatre.
13. Had a sleep in morning. Worked on my blog. Took a nap. Watching the news and seen Donald Trump assassination attempt. Scary.
14. Went apartment hunting with Adam.
15. It’s Monday again. Linda and I are back to our virtual walking!
16. Tuesday. I didn’t realize just how much I enjoy walking with Linda.
17. Wednesday. Movie and Dinner night with Adam.
18. Thursday. Typical day at work.
19. TGIF! The best time of the weekend is 5.30pm. I have the whole weekend ahead of me!
20. Saturday. Mom asked that I drive her and dad to his appointment Monday morning. I had to get the details of Monday and make arrangements for work.
21. Sunday. Spent the night at my folks house. Wanted to be there in plenty of time on Monday morning. Had a wonderful visit with my parents.
22. Monday. Went with my parents in the morning. Dad had a colonoscopy scheduled and I was the designated driver. All was good. Amen!
23. Tuesday. Kevin’s 59th Birthday!
24. Wednesday. Virtual walk with Linda.
25. Thursday. Dinner and movie night with Adam. I have no idea what to have for dinner. We have lots of tomatoes from the garden. A salad is sounding perfect! Movie, Land of Bad. Not a family movie, but I must admit a good watch.
26. Friday. Our 38th anniversary. Took the day off as a vacation day. Kevin is cutting hay this weekend before the next round of rain. Next week is supposed to be hot and will need to get the hay put up before it burns. For lunch a repeat of dinner last night.
27. Saturday, I am bored. Have you ever had one of these days? I did a Google search for events in my area. This is what I found. On my way to check it out!
28. Sunday. Spent the evening in the ER. Kevin had been working out in the pasture. He had come to the gate, parked the tractor. He had gotten out of the tractor to open the gate. He heard a popping sound. That is when the tractor advanced, pinned him between the tractor and barbed wire fence. The hedge post kept the tractor from possibly breaking a rib or several. So with the cut from the barbed wire on his arm, Kevin was very lucky. 13 stitches later he is sleeping.
29. Monday. Work as usual. Felt tired all day.
30. Tuesday. Woke up with a really bad stomach ache. Held the throne with the trash can between my knees very royal like.
31. Wednesday, Another day with the stomach bug.
It’s now August 1st and I am still not feeling the best. Called in sick and have a doctor’s appointment for follow up. I just want to make sure the ‘bug’ is not more to do with my Crohn’s.
What to Wear will feature different palettes providing ideas when you plan the wardrobe for individual pictures or your family images during the holiday gatherings.
What to Wear | July features ideas for all family members: mom; dad; big brother; big sister and little brother and little sister. Have fun preparing your stylish look for family pictures!
It is not necessary to purchase new clothing for better images. When planning the wardrobe, do wash and dry the clothing. Immediately after drying, hang the clothes on a hanger. Or iron, if you like. The main goal is wrinkle free clothing.
Shoes do not need to be new either. New shoe laces is an inexpensive purchase to spruce up the look. Polishing leather or washing canvas shoes is another solution to brighten their appearance.
Have the socks match either the pants or shoes. This is important for anyone who may be sitting or squatting in the group. Imagine if the pants are navy blue, shoes white and you see bright green socks. Very distracting. Your eyes will go straight to the green socks and not the person’s face! However, if the socks were either white (matching shoes) or navy blue (matching pants), your eyes will flow over the person and land on the face/eyes of the person in the picture.
Hi, welcome to Gma’sPhoto! This post was inspired by our trip to St. Joseph, MO for our summer party fireworks purchase. On our drive, we always stop into one particular Chinese restaurant. It was here, in May 2011 our journey with men’s mental illness began. I call it our dark days.
Thank God, I am being totally sincere. Not at all saying HIS name in vain. We are out of the dark (as long as our son is taking his meds). Occasionally, there may be a cloudy day, metaphorically. For this I am very grateful.
I want to share our experience as parents of a young male adult child at his onset of mental illness. I had felt like I missed something when he was growing up. The what if’s consumed me. This is the beginning of our story, Kevin and Debra’s story.
Telling the story now, I have the hindsight. Just wish what I know now, I had known earlier when Adam was still in middle and high school. Adam tended to be more emotional than our daughter. While Adam was in his senior year in high school he worked on the senior slide show for the class graduation. Adam and a couple other guys were part of the group. One of Adam’s comments was that this other kid was getting all the credit. He mentioned it several different times. According to Adam, Adam was doing most of the work. Okay, nothing too unordinary right? On with my story.
Graduation comes and goes. Summertime is here. Adam was getting nose bleeds. Not too uncommon, especially when he experiences allergies. He goes off to college. All is going great. His grades are better than when he was in high school. He was able to focus on his interest, arts. First year of college was fabulous. Summer rolled around. Adam wanted to live in Lawrence for the summer. Grandma and Grandpa said it was okay that he stay with them, with conditions. Those conditions were he could not smoke, do drugs and stay out late. No problem.
“Age of onset of mental disorders. Roughly half of all lifetime mental disorders in most studies start by the mid-teens and three quarters by the mid-20s. Later onsets are mostly secondary conditions. Severe disorders are typically preceded by less severe disorders that are seldom brought to clinical attention.”
Our son was graduating from community college May 2011. We were proud, are still proud parents. We invited family to attend the ceremony and after for dinner to celebrate. Kevin and I had drove North to Hiawatha where Adam attended community college. When we got there, Adam was no where to be found. One of his roommates said he had already left. We were confused. We called Adam and he said he did not want to go to graduation. He was driving back to Lawrence to my parents home where he was going to stay for the summer.
We called Kevin’s parents, Kevin’s sister and her husband, our daughter and her family. My parents already knew so we did not need to call them. Luckily no one else drove the whole way to the graduation. We had them meet us at the Chinese resturaunt. What an evening.
During the summer Adam became more paranoid. My parents had Adam go to the doctor office for drug tests, on more than one occasion. Each were random. Every time the tests would come back negative. One night Adam’s behavior was such that my parents called the police. Adam was taken to the hospital. Erika had gone to the hospital to be with Adam. Upon his release from hospital, Kevin and I had to acknowledge we would be responsible for Adam and that he would be in our care. This is when we observed his behaviors we only heard of from my parents.
Adam had many different behaviors. More than I can recall. Just that his behavior was not right. Adam did tell us he had been taking drugs and knew which ones helped him to concentrate and stay focused. Adam’s doctor is the same doctor I went to and the one my parents went to. This was a major factor in the help we received for Adam. Kevin and I went to this doctor. The doctor said drugs was not the concern at this time, it was his mental state. A few recommendations for the best doctor for Adam were given to us.
Adam began his treatment. I had previously sought legal advice about guardianship. The attorney asked if we had doctor statement that this would be in Adam’s best interest. At this time we did not have this and the attorney said it would be very hard to get guardianship granted.
Eventually, Adam had a ‘team’ that consisted of his Case Worker and therapist. Adam made a few poor decisions that resulted in his therapist to refer Adam to a psychologist. The psychologist (Dr.J) did an intensive session with Adam and ultimately she provided a letter stating it would be in Adam’s best interest to have a guardian. Once we had her letter, the family doctor also wrote a letter supporting the guardianship. Adam’s therapist wrote her letter supporting guardianship. The psychologist (Dr.E) who prescribes Adam’s medicines wrote his supporting letter. With the four letters Kevin and I hired a family law attorney. We are now Adam’s Co-conservator, Co-Guardians.
This story is not complete, however this is where I will end my post. Eventually I will return with more of the story. I wanted to share in case someone else may be going through a similar struggle. If so and you have questions, I would be willing to go more in depth with you in a one to one conversation. Send me a message using my contact form.
