Calves Part 2 | My Sunday Snapshot
Hi, welcome to My Sunday Snapshot #5! A couple weeks ago I visited the calves for the first time since they were weened from their momma. They would not let me get close to them. This visit was much different. I had to be quiet and move slow. Just standing at the gate, I held out my hand. The little brown calve came right up to me and licked my hand!
Then this bigger calve (much bigger) gained interest. He was at the back of the group and made his way to the front. I was a bit frightened. These cows can get big. And these calves are fed well to gain weight.
Once I was able to calm my inner feelings, I held out my hand to the big guy. Slowly he approached.
Have a wonderful week!

Pictures can produce so many different emotions and feelings. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words! Share your fun and interesting image from the past week.
They are so cute!! How fun to be able to visit them daily!
Hi, Heather. They sure are. The calves are the cutest!
A wonderful experience.
Hi, Tony. Welcome to Gma’sPhoto! Nice to ‘meet’ you!
Take care and best wishes.
I love your sweet calves!!! I have always had a fondness for cattle and mother cows in particular. I wrote on Share Your Style #421, where I featured your post (at last week/this week’s extended link party), that I used to feed this cow that lived up the hill from us in Northern California. On my way walking home from the bus stop, I’d pass by this sweet cow in the field and check on her new baby each spring. I’d pull some long grass by the side of the road and hand it to her for a treat. She would watch for me and come over every time and one day she licked my face! Sandpaper…
It was a sweet gesture if painful for a moment. <3
Enjoy your babies as I know they grow quickly and off they go for sale and/or into the herd. I used to raise Nubian and Toggenburg goats in high school (4-H and FFA).
Hugs,
Barb 🙂
Hi, Barbara. Yes, the tongue is like sand paper.
Thank you for the feature!
Looking forward to seeing you next week.
Take care and best wishes.
It’s incredible how animals, even ones as large as calves, can show such gentleness and curiosity!
Love the photos.
Happy Wednesday!
Hi, Veronica Lee! Next time I go visit them, I’ll take some apples or pears with me. We’ll see how many takers I get!
Take care and best wishes.
These photos are precious! How fun to capture such special moments!
Hi, Laura. The first visit the cows spooked really easy. This time not so much, but I still had to be quiet and no quick movements. Can’t wait until my next visit.
Take care and best wishes.
Their size can be very intimidating!
Such cute animals. I have always liked looking at cows.
Bahahhahaha, So tell me Patrick of all your travels, where have you been to see cows? I am sure you have some pictures of great cattle! I am being sincere with cattle pictures. Seems like you travel alot.
Take care and best wishes.
There is a park called Tilden Park near me that has a little farm with cows and I see them driving through the Central Valley. I don’t stop and take photos. I should though.
If you do, please share the photos!!
